Two exercises that I seemed to find a lot of results from would be the Universal Loving Kindness and the Visualization on pg. 145-146. The Universal one was nice because it was 4 sentences that to me felt like a prayer and I didn't have to focus on just one person. The visualization exercise on pg 145 was easy to think of something for health, happiness and wholeness. My children, excelling in school and my accomplishments in my 5k's are what gives me the incentive to keep moving because I know I can do anything if I put my mind to it.
These exercises will be easy for me to do because I have recorded a lot on my phone into little sections so for the Universal Loving kindness I can hear the words and repeat them when I am out on a run which usually gives me the most thinking time to myself and I really take in my surroundings and enjoy nature. It is where I feel the most at peace and connectedness. Also I do have the time to implement these into my daily activities because I have the time and I would always make the time. So I will go for a run or meditate before my kids get up in the morning so I have complete quiet and no interruptions because I see how doing this daily makes me feel. I feel more relaxed and at peace mostly. But when I am out on a run and I am doing it I feel that I could run forever!
Renee, I agree with you that running does wonders for relaxing. You said you like to enjoy nature as you run. Do you feel that the experience is changed if you run on a track or a treadmill? I enjoy running on paths and parks mostly. I really prefer not to run on a treadmill. Something about staying in one spot seems to take away the mental aspect of the exercise. Exercises, such as running, can absolutely be meditative in and of themselves. Be well.

Renee...I love the picture. I think that is a great way to add physical and mental exercise. I love to run and I realyl liked your idea of putting the exercises on your phone but I want to try to run with them. I think that is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThere really is nothing like getting time to do mental and physical exercise to get you going fo rthe day. I feel like it helps my attitude and focus on the positives which inturn reflects to my children.
This is a great suggestion that i will share with others including patients that I work with.
Great posts Renee and thanks again for the great idea.

Danny-Yes I dislike running on a treadmill because I am going no where. I can't really get into a workout because I love being outside and taking everything in. I have even adjusted to running in the cold because I just hate treadmills lol even though I own one and an elliptical. I only use those if it is raining or I am short on time but I usually make it a point to get outside even if it is for 30 minutes. Running outside just keeps me motivated!
ReplyDeleteMelissa-Thanks for responding. I like using my phone for everything. I mean we are surrounded by technology might as well use it to the best of its ability! If it helps me attain what I am looking for in my workout I will use anything to get my through it and succeed a little more in it.
Hello Renee, I chose two diferent exercises, but I really enjoyed all of them. I am glad there are many different styles and types of mental exercises and meditations, since everyone is different. I will have to down load some of the meditations on to my sansa clip, but since I can not see I am afrade of walking off somewhare in a fog and not remembering how to get home. Keep up the great work stay running and remember to smile!
